The Boston Tea party was about double taxation – HOW ABOUT 5 TAXES!?

The Government creates transparent taxes to hide the truth from the People. These transparent taxes add up to real money out of your pocket! The Boston Tea party was about double taxation – HOW ABOUT 5 TAXES!?

Colorado recently passed laws to increase the registration fees on motor vehicles to raise money for road improvements. I agree that some of the roads in Colorado are in need of repairs but I do not agree with the law as it is written. SUV’s are required to pay a higher fee than standard cars. We could argue that SUVs are “standard cars” but that doesn’t address or solve the problem. We the People already pay for the roads with 5 TAXES:

  1. State income Tax – a percentage of your State income tax pays for roads
  2. Federal income Tax – a percentage of your Federal income tax pays for roads
  3. Gasoline Tax – $0.286 of every gallon of gas you purchase pays for roads
  4. Gas Guzzler Tax – every vehicle you purchase that gets less than 20 miles per gallon is taxed $1300
  5. Registration Tax – every time a vehicle is registered and re-licensed you pay a tax To address paying for the roads we drive on requires more than transparent taxes.

In a perfect world where all of us are equal, we would pay based on how many miles we drive and what time we drive. People who drive during rush hour should pay more than someone driving at 2:00 am simply because to reduce traffic congestion during prime time requires wider roads. Those that create the demand should pay for the services they require or suffer the consequences. The only possible way for this to work would be to pay a toll based on the distance and time travelled. It is highly unlikely this will ever happen. There is another solution that results in a single tax that is still based on usage but we have to take the time of day out of the equation: The tax on gas is the only way within the grasp of our current system to provide tax equality. If vehicle A gets 30 miles to the gallon and Vehicle B gets 15 miles per gallon, both are paying the same tax.

There is no perfect way to tax the use of the roads equally but the current system certainly does not provide equal taxation to all.
